आज गणेश चतुर्थी के शुुुभ अवसर पर इसके इतिहास के बारे में जानते हैं। पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार भाद्रपद की चतुर्थी तिथि को दिन के मध्यकाल में गणेश जी का जन्म हुआ था।
मुगलों से शिवाजी द्वारा लड़ाई के समय महाराष्ट्र में लोगों की एकता बनाए रखने हेतु इसे शिवाजी ने सामाजिक उत्सव का रूप दिया था
सन 1892 में लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक ने इस त्यौहार को, जो कि सिर्फ घर में मनाया जाता था, जनता को जागृत करने के लिए इसे सामाजिक रूप दिया था। जिसका प्रारूप आज तक चल रहा है। मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र और दक्षिणी राज्यों में इसे काफी धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है।
इस वर्ष गणेश चतुर्थी आज, 22 अगस्त 2020 , शुक्रवार को मनाई जा रही है।चतुर्थी का प्रारंभ 21 अगस्त को रात्रि 11:02 पर हो रहा है और 22 अगस्त को सुबह 7:57 तक चतुर्थी है। उदय कालीन तिथि सूर्य उदय के समय के बाद तक रहेगी, इसलिए गणेश चतुर्थी 22 अगस्त की मानी जाएगी।

स्थापना एवं पूजन का समय
गणेश जी की स्थापना एवं पूजन के लिए सुबह 11:06 से 1:42 तक का समय बहुत अच्छा माना गया है ।करीब 2 घंटे 36 मिनट का समय गणेश स्थापना एवं पूजन का मिल रहा है।
सर्वप्रथम ब्रह्म मुहूर्त में स्नान कर शुद्ध सात्विक कपड़े पहनें। फिर पंचांग से शुभ मुहूर्त देखकर गणेश जी की प्रतिमा लाएं। घर में चौकी की स्थापना करें, जो कि पूर्व या उत्तर की तरफ रखें, चाहे तो पूर्वोत्तर के कोने में भी रख सकते हैं। चौकी को शुद्ध गंगाजल से साफ कर उस पर हरा या लाल कपड़ा बिछाएं। तत्पश्चात थोड़े से चावल रखें और उन चावलों पर गणेश जी को विराजमान करें। गंगाजल डाल शुद्ध करें। तत्पश्चात उन्हें जनेऊ धारण कराएं और बाएं तरफ चावल रख कलश स्थापना करें। कलश पर स्वास्तिक का चिन्ह जरूर बनाएं और कलश पर अर्थात कलश के नारियल पर लाल डोरा बांधे।
बाई ओर एक दीपक स्थापित करें। फिर गणेश जी को दूर्वा चढ़ाएं, पंचमेवा और मोदक का भोग लगाएं। तत्पश्चात फूल माला और रोली भगवान को अर्पित करें, रोली से गणेश जी को टीका लगाएं और फिर बाई और रखा दीपक जलाएं। ध्यान रहे दीपक अखंड जलते रहना चाहिए।तत्पश्चात कपूर या घी के दीपक से आरती करें।
बाएं हाथ की तरफ घूमी हुई सूंड वाले गणेश जी लाने चाहिए। गणेश जी की मूर्ति में इस बात का भी ध्यान रखें कि एकदंत, अंकुश और मोदक अवश्य होना चाहिए। साथ ही एक हाथ आशीर्वाद की मुद्रा में होना चाहिए और मूषक भी होना चाहिए। गणेश जी की मूर्ति खड़ी हुई नहीं लानी चाहिए। जिन्हें संतान सुख की इच्छा है, उन्हें बाल गणेश लाने चाहिए। नाचते हुए गणेश जी की स्थापना करने से घर में आनंद उत्साह का वातावरण बना रहता है। इस प्रकार की मूर्ति की पूजा करने से छात्रों और कलाकारों को विशेष लाभ प्राप्त होता है।
क्या ना करें
गणेश जी को कभी तुलसी अर्पित ना करें। गणेश जी की पीठ के दर्शन ना करें। गणेश जी की परिक्रमा जगह पर खड़े होकर ही करें अर्थात जगह पर घूम कर ही परिक्रमा मानें। एक ही गणेश जी की स्थापना करें।गणेश जी के साथ-साथ रिद्धि – सिद्धि, तुष्टि – पुष्टि, लाभ – शुभ की पूजा भी करें और साथ में मूषक की पूजा भी करें। गणेश जी की पूजा में सफेद चंदन का प्रयोग न करते हुए लाल चंदन का प्रयोग करें।
मंत्र– ॐ रिद्धि सिद्धि तुष्टि पुष्टि श्री लाभ शुभ आमोद प्रमोद सहिताए महानगणपतायै नमः
इस माला का जाप करने से सर्व कामनाएं पूर्ण होती हैं।
मंत्र — ॐ एकदन्ताय विद्महे वक्रतुंडाय धीमहि तन्नो बुदि्ध प्रचोदयात।। एकदंताय विद्महे, वक्रतुण्डाय धीमहि, तन्नो दंती प्रचोदयात्।। महाकर्णाय विद्महे, वक्रतुण्डाय धीमहि, तन्नो दंती प्रचोदयात्।। गजाननाय विद्महे, वक्रतुण्डाय धीमहि, तन्नो दंती प्रचोदयात्।।
यह गणेश गायत्री मंत्र भी सभी बाधाओं के निवारण में सहायक है।
मंत्र– ऊं वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय, सूर्यकोटि समप्रभः।
निर्विघ्नम् कुरुमेदेव, सर्व कार्येषु सर्वदा।।
यह विद्यार्थियों के लिए विशेष उपयोगी है।

गणेश जी के जन्म की कथाएं
श्रीगणेश के जन्म की पौराणिक कथाएं भी निराली हैंं। वराहपुराण के अनुसार भगवान शिव पंचतत्वों से बड़ी तल्लीनता से गणेश का निर्माण कर रहे थे। इस कारण गणेश अत्यंत रूपवान व विशिष्ट बन रहे थे। आकर्षण का केंद्र बन जाने के भय से सारे देवताओं में खलबली मच गई। इस भय को भांप शिवजी ने बालक गणेश का पेट बड़ा कर दिया और सिर को गज का रूप दे दिया।
दूसरी कथा शिवपुराण से है और यही लोकप्रिय भी है। इसके अनुसार देवी पार्वती ने अपने उबटन से एक पुतला बनाया और उसमें प्राण डाल दिए। उन्होंने इस प्राणी को द्वारपाल बना कर बैठा दिया और किसी को भी अंदर न आने देने का आदेश देते हुए स्नान करने चली गईं। संयोग से इसी दौरान भगवान शिव वहां आए। उन्होंने अंदर जाना चाहा, लेकिन बालक गणेश ने रोक दिया। नाराज शिवजी ने बालक गणेश को समझाया, लेकिन उन्होंने एक न सुनी।
क्रोधित शिवजी ने त्रिशूल से गणेश का सिर काट दिया। पार्वती को जब पता चला कि शिव जी ने गणेश का सिर काट दिया है, तो वे कुपित हुईं। पार्वती की नाराजगी दूर करने के लिए शिवजी ने गणेश के धड़ पर हाथी का मस्तक लगा कर उन्हें जीवनदान दे दिया। तभी शिवजी ने उन्हें सामर्थ्य और शक्तियां प्रदान करते हुए गणों का देव बनाया
